Ospreys return to nest!

Hello everyone,

Spring has returned (kind of!) and we are fortunate to have been able to watch the ospreys rebuild a nest platform that was seriously damaged over the winter. Their work to bring in sticks and grasses culminated with the female laying an egg in the nest bowl earlier this week. The egg was laid between 3:30 pm on Sunday and 10:30 am on Tuesday morning. We will have to keep a close watch for additional eggs over the next few days. Good luck to the ospreys as they work to keep the egg protected from the cool damp weather.

Thanks for all the posts. For more frequent details and to catch up with what has happened at the nest please visit BRI's online community.

Have a great day!

So what about the commenter who mentioned they thought the nest pole has moved as of Nov 2010? Whats up?
Thanks for adding a new entry to the poor osprey blog....I'm still waiting for Wing to finish the story he started back in the entry of May 2008 about the female being injured? and the chick being raised in captivity before release? You guys throw these stories out here and don't follow up; I remember and I'm still curious.

5/25 the fog is finally clearing and we have a good view of the nest - and there's still an osprey sitting! The eggs should be hatching within days now.

Hey Guys Do you think that there is something wrong with the eggs? It has been a long time since the first egg? No cameral today. My students having been watching daily for these eggs to begin hatching. any thoughts from Biodiversity would be helpful to keep the students watching.

offline again !!! It would be nice , if bri , at least posted an update, or 2 .. for this osprey nest..
Tho think that any updates will not be posted, as the bri staff are way to busy , in other states..helping wildlife, there, and not in Maine..it has been it has been over 50 days since the ospreys laid their eggs.. looks like no hatching this year

My students are very disappointed that this has not been online all week. The eggs will have hatched by now and we did not get to see it. Very disappointing. I have emailed you folks and left blog comments yet you do not respond.
This is exactly the kind of project that I would personally support with financial contributions but not if you don't respond to the blog. your organization is too inconsistent.

6/13 brings sadness to our osprey lovers as it appears that all the chicks have met an untimely demise. So sorry.

well BRI , has failed to update this blog.. at least we got to watch a few days of the chicks , before nature took them.we did have severe weather the past few weeks..and it was chilly..Perhaps next year will be , more lucky. And BRI will get its ACT together, and hire people, who will update the reg blog page, and not the one where we have to sign up !!!!

Signing up is no big deal.....I spend very little time on computers and I was leary at first but I did it and it's been fine....it's a community of people who love birds and nature and we help each other learn things when BRI is nowhere to be found.
I too get so very discouraged when they are not here talking with us especially when it seems that there are teachable moments, but I try to remember that the webcams are not a priority in their business.
I too wish there was a person there who checked the cams and all the blogs every day and made response when necessary; it doesn't seem like it'd take more than 10 minutes....but that's my wish and not reality.

I am at least gratified that I have so many friends on the Ning board, which I signed up to see and talk on (use a nickname if you want to remain anonymous), who can support my love of nature, help teach with various links to information and be there for me in ways I never could imagine.
So while the above blogger is so upset, know that a bunch of us are as well and it doesn't do any good to stew in it! Come over and sign up - it's pretty quiet now, but people there are good and they may just make life a little nicer for you.
